The Problem of Infidelity Infidelity has always been a problem in human relationships, but never more has it been intense than now where modern attitudes of sexual promiscuity and moral relativity are taken as matter of fact, helped by the pervasive influence of media and communication technology. Prevent Infidelity From Within Notwithstanding the force of outside factors, help for unfaithfulness comes from within the dynamics of the relationship itself. Most partners who commit themselves to serious relationship initially intend to remain faithful to each other. Love and faithfulness is the strong motivating factor that draws partners through the challenging task of coming to a committed relationship. Hence learning the weaknesses that creep in a relationship is the first step to prevent infidelity. So what are some basic threats to committed relationship?
The treadmill of routine. After lengthy period which could be weeks, months or years the relationship becomes boring, a mere going through unmindful activity or way of relating to each other. Everything is being taken for granted. Individual stress. The relationship comes to a point when each partner independently battles the demands of life and work. And then the stress and anxiety that go with it translate to recurrent irritations and disagreements that not only remove the tinsel in the relationship but plant invisible thorns that begin to prick each other constantly. Growing separately. Each partner may find greater excitement and fulfillment in a new exclusive activity with another group or person. When this happens this new dynamic begins to take priority over the primary relationship with the partner and, together with the above factors, prepare the ground for the seedlings of unfaithfulness. Be Proactive To Prevent Infidelity. When you begin to realize the above things happening take a proactive approach and do not wait for problem to arise. You need to put in more of yourself in reversing the trend. Do not wait for the other to do so nor should you demand it from the other. Rather, do it with sweet innocent-looking seduction that comes across as very natural habits. Some basic things you can do restore and keep your partner’s devotion are the following: Show creative ways of manifesting genuine fascination with your partner’s interests and activities without being obtrusive. For example, you may not play golf or dabble in interior decoration, as the case may be, but you can subscribe to magazine about these and provide insight or input in ways that make you an insider. Listen with your heart to your partner’s emotional cycle and pattern until your heart becomes like a barometer that easily sense changes in the feeling climate of the other. Knowing this, think and prepare appropriate responses that uplift and encourage, rather than those that aggravate the anxiety, anger or whatever the other is experiencing adversely. When your partner’s activities begin to alienate you, encourage the other to share about it (no pre-judgment, no manifestation of jealousy, etc). Knowing what fascinates the other can give you an insight on how to balance your partner’s outside activity with more or better alternatives in your relationship, like finding new but common interests. Continue to express love in creative ways to renew the romance that tends to ebb away. Avoid the ‘what about me’ attitude. The more ‘what about me’ attitude in your relationship, the more you lose what is ‘for me’. Focus on showing and making love in old and new ways. Draw Wisdom and Power from a Greater Source Practice regular prayer for your relationship to grow, bear fruit and endure. Faithfulness is a virtue and its secret lies in the realm of spirit where moral intelligence is nurtured. When all your reasoning, effort and skill seem to fail, prayer can reach into realms that transcend human power and touch the heart and the will.
Faithfulness in relationship in the final analysis is most fulfilling. Knowing the climate on which it is challenged and weakened then taking deliberate, creative, practical and spiritual measures in a consistent way can preserve it even in a world that tends to glorify its demise.
